The Hampton Roads Health Coalition (HRHC), a non-profit, employer sponsored
organization founded in 1983, has a membership of more than 80 employer businesses
across Hampton Roads, representing more than 125, 000 employees and their dependents.
Our business members consist of small, medium and large-sized employers in both
the private and public sectors of the Hampton Roads Community. Members include
employers, providers, insurers, and benefits professionals believing that all
parties working together provides the best solutions in health care.
The Hampton Roads Health Coalition is committed to improving the quality of
health care in the Hampton Roads Community through the cooperative efforts of
employers and healthcare providers. This is accomplished primarily by providing
information and education to local employers on issues surrounding health care.
The HRHC provides several forums to disseminate current information such as
Business Roundtables, Annual Business & Health Summit, Legislative Forums,
Newsletters, Surveys, Technology, Decision Support Tools, and Awards. The Coalition
also provides an excellent opportunity to network with the best in the field
of health care and benefits (human resource managers, benefits personnel, CEO's,
health care professionals and providers, insurers, accountants, attorneys and
bankers.)
Recently, HRHC has become involved in health care purchasing by offering a
managed dental services plan (DHMO through Dominion Dental); managed vision
service plan (through Cole Vision Services); and, a prescription benefit management
plan (through Walgreens' Halth Intiatives) to its members. Some Coalitions across
the United States have joined together to collectively purchase health care
and offer a variety of products and services to their employer members.
HRHC employer members can be an important voice in the community by becoming
familiar with health care legislative issues on the state and federal level
that may impact health care costs and quality. In addition to the Coalition,
the businesses may link up with other regional and statewide organizations and
the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH).
Coalition members receive a free annual subscription to Business and Health
($99 value) and other valuable publications throughout the year on wellness,
health quality measures, Well Workplace newsletter ($60 value), and outcomes,
managed care, disease management, legislation, health policy, etc.
